This was just ok for me. I get what the author was going for, but I just really didn't buy the break-up. If they had been that close I just don't see the break-up happening like that. I think there would have been more communication. Not sure if I'll continue the series or not. 3 stars.… (meer)

I'd read a contemporary romance by Ms. Kingsley and really liked it so I thought I'd grab this one when it came out. Unfortunately, I don't think murder mysteries are her genre.
There were a lot of plot holes while at the same time too much was given away. The characters, aside from Rick, were generic. Alec is the hot-tempered Scots detective who talks like Jamie Fraser (most Scots, even in the Isles, don't talk like that and Alec lived in Edinburgh for years). Rosie is weak-willed and all over the place. She can't control her son but brings him to Scotland with her to pick up her sister's body because? I have no idea. The kid is rude even for an adolescent.
The fact that Alec is trucking the two of them around while investigating the murder was just unbelievable. Almost as unbelievable as Alec and Rosie smuggling her sister's body out of the crematorium. Or them having hot sex in the middle of a murder investigation. And while I like Outlander as well as the next person, the constant references grated.
It's a long book and I skimmed through a lot of the end. It just wasn't for me.… (meer)

Yes, I am a person that like the books that I read to engross me and stay connected with the characters. The romance in this book is a slow burner, and Holly and Brandon build their relationship base on true friendship, especially after they get hurt from a traumatic relationship they had.
Brandon is a dream boyfriend; he is down to earth, with perfect gentleman manners, his mother should be very proud of him. I wish men like this will come to my way, but a girl can also dream.
Kelsey Kingsley is such a talented author, and I can't wait to read more of her work!… (meer)

"The Life We Wanted" is a contemporary romance with some spicy time full of emotions. Kelsey Kingsley is becoming an author that makes me want to read all of her books and whatever she will suggest.
Tabitha & Sebastian's love story is full of real emotions.
Tabitha's nephew and Sebastian's son (that found out of his existence after 15.5 years), Grayson is the chain that connects the two main characters.
Both the main protagonists live their lives in a certain way, even though they would change for something they dream..
Lately, authors and publishers make Spotify playlists to listen to while reading the book. "The Life We Wanted" has one as well. It suits very well, especially when there are a music group and music subjects throughout the book.
This book made me laugh, made me tear up, and there were times it took my breath away in the right way. From this book, I take the following quote:
“Bad shit happens. Unfortunately, that’s a part of life, and unfortunately, we have to deal with it the best that we can. And I think that sometimes, good things come our way in the middle of that bad shit, to help us cope and get through it and become happy again. And I know that, by feeling less sad, you think you forget your mom, but I promise you’re not. You’re just moving past the part that made you sad in the first place so that you can remember the good stuff again.”… (meer)
