Korte biografie: Zalman King was born Zalman King Lefkowitz in Trenton, New Jersey. He became an actor and among other roles, portrayed attorney Aaron Silverman on ABC-TV's The Young Lawyers from 1970 to 1971, and Paul in the film Tell Me a Riddle (1980).

He went on to direct numerous films, including Two Moon Junction (1988), Wild Orchid (1990), Red Shoe Diaries (1992) -- which became a long-running series for the Showtime TV network and was the basis for many sequels -- and Delta of Venus (1995), based on the book by Anaïs Nin.

New York. Elizabeth McGraw è una giovane divorziata, impiegata presso una galleria d'arte, dove viene presa in giro dalla gente e dai colleghi per l'eccesso di fascino.

Per conto della sua galleria sta organizzando la mostra di Farnsworth, un anziano pittore introverso di provincia, poco attratto dal rumore della vita urbana. Durante i preparativi, in una rosticceria a Chinatown conosce John Gray, arbitraggista di Wall Street, restando colpita dalla sua baldanza e dall'aspetto curato. Dopo un po' di tempo, mentre compra una gallina giocattolo in un mercato di strada, lo incontra di nuovo e comincia a frequentarlo nella casa sull'acqua dei suoi amici. In un ristorante italiano intraprendono subito una relazione di "nove settimane e mezzo", fatta esclusivamente di sessualità e giochi erotici, in risposta alle frustrazioni della vita yuppie.

Nelle prime fasi del rapporto Elizabeth, convinta da continui regali e scherzi, scorgerà l'amore per John. All'inizio l'uomo, attratto dai modi di fare ordinari di lei a dispetto della bellezza, la fa distendere su un tavolo e le passa addosso un cubetto di ghiaccio. Poi la ragazza entra nello studio dell'uomo, si fa regalare un orologio e, su suo consiglio, decide di usarlo all'ora giusta per toccarsi intimamente, durante la proiezione di un video d'arte moderna. In seguito John va a casa di Elizabeth, cucina a casa sua, le dà da mangiare e bere davanti al frigorifero, e colpito dal giovanilismo dei movimenti della ragazza, la bacia. Costretta da tali episodi a subire una regressione quasi adolescenziale, Elizabeth convince per sbaglio la collega Molly a fidanzarsi con l'ex marito Bruce, e comincia a perdere interesse per il suo lavoro...… (meer)

Four on the Floor: Zalman King's Red Shoe Diaries #6 door Zalman King

First of all I would like to start out by saying that when I was loaned this book I thought it might be a bit cheesy. I loved the show but wasn't sure about reading about it. There are cheesy parts. I could do without Jake's comments after opening each letter or at the end of the first three stories. But.... the surprising thing about this book was it was hot! It was hot like your typical erotica book read around here but it also has some emotion and more substance to it than some I have read. I'm a skimmer by nature but didn't want to with this book. The first story is called The Psychiatrist. She sits and listens to one of her patients descriptions of her escapades whit strangers and wonders about being that free and open herself. The next story was about two couples and how they danced, for years, around hooking up as a foursome. The third story was my least favorite and is about a dancer trying out for a music video and how she, with some outside help, is finally able to free herself of her small-minded upbringing. The final story is my favorite. It's written by two women that, in the story, write each other back and forth about their loves, losses and all of those inbetween. I loved the insight in this story. I would have given this a 4.5 but once again, no dice! lol… (meer)
