- Bernard Kliban attended the Pratt Institute but left before graduating and travelled through Europe. He moved to California and became a Playboy cartoonist in 1962. He's best known for his collections of humorous cartoons about cats, drawn in a distinctive style. Today the Cat cartoons also are featured on many products including calendars, mugs, and t-shirts.

Sight gags galore. Very inspired. A rock dreaming of having a conquistadore place his foot declaratively on it, a native handing a white big game hunter an egg beater as a giant egg aproaches, a genie that materializes in the form of a tv ad, a man looking at a microscope thru a telescope. Kliban's cup spilleth over. Do his close relations get sick of how funny he is & wish he'd stop showing them his cartoons?
Am I wrong about this guy being really popular? I mean, I think he's really, REALLY funny but his bks are on a press I've never heard of & they aren't represented on GoodReads in a zillion editions. I've always thought (even before I was a sperm in my daddy's eye) that he was classic bathrm reading material - in everyone's home, kindof like a Chairman Mao shirt in China. But now I'm beginning to wonder. It's probably too subtle for the average person.
Oh well, at the risk of being like everybody else in the world (since I'm sure EVERYONE will agree w/ me), this is a very, very funny bk. I hope that some day I'm standing around at a cocktail party, drinking Mai Tais, & that B. Kliban appears & we start talking about sports or motor mechanics.
