1775. The Wild Jackasses: The American Farmer in Revolt, by Dale Kramer (read 12 Apr 1983) This is a non-profound book telling of rural American agitation from the 1860s to the 1950s. It is based on a rather cursory study of secondary sources, but some of it was reasonably new to me. The wild days in North Dakota, from 1915 to the late 1930s, are entitled to a more profound study, which after reading this book I found when I read Elwyn B. Robinson's History of North Dakota and Edward C. Blackorby's Prairie Rebel: The Public Life of William Lemke. A.C. Townley organized the Non-Partisan League and they had some wild times running North Dakota. The account in the book of the mistreatment of Judge C.C. Bradley in LeMars, Iowa, on April 27, 1933, in this book is a little more detailed than other accounts I have read. All in all, the book tells of movements that interest me a lot, but it is just a writer's compilation, not a scholarly study.… (meer)
