The book Mytths Busted Just When You Thought You Knew What You Knew, Emily Krieger is about Myths that have been busted. It starts off by saying that there is no proof about how many spiders people swallow in a year. Actually this is something that is made up. A tarantula can’t kill a person. We learn that pigs aren’t really dirty just because they are covered in mud. They are in mud to stay cool and use it to repel insects. People believe that Poinsettias are poisonous but they aren’t. The myth that dog years are close to seven human years is close to being true. Food that falls on the floor is really not safe to eat within 5 seconds, it can all be contaminated. The flu virus can actually live on money for as long as 3 days and mucus can live as long as 17 days. The seven things dirtier than your toilet are the cutting board in the kitchen, kitchen sponge, bathroom counter, bathroom floor, bathroom sink, kitchen floor and kitchen sink. There are lot more myths that have been explained. Bats aren’t blind. Most can see. There is really no truth that humans only use 10 percent of their brain. They actually use most of their brain. The full moon actually doesn’t make people weird. An elephants trunk has more muscles than you have in your body. Fortune cookies were actually made in Japan, not China.

The book was really interesting because I got to read about many myths that people believe in but they turned out to be true. I enjoy reading about true facts. I would give this book a four star. The graphic images are really good, but I would like to read more abobut the real facts. My favorite myth was learning about bats not actually being blind.

I love this sort of stuff, even if the myths they're busting aren't pervasive, and even if science got out in front of them: The Brontosaurus is Back
