One of my favorite books of the year. Using historical documents and photographs from the Historic American Buildings Survey, Larkin surveys architectural styles for American homes from the colonial period through 1840, tracing regional variations and practices. Visually beautiful and excellently written.

It only loses a star because there are so many tasty-looking things that I can't eat. If/when I start eating meat again, I will definitely be cooking up some of this stuff.
