This book was also a great selection for an informative text on basketball. I enjoyed this book because it was mainly about key skills and tips. Kids love learning about new moves in sports so I believe this will automatically catch their attention. This book did a good job with explaining how to perform a certain trick. The last book focused on the why's but this book focuses on the how's. For example, when explaining how to do a "fingertip control," the author gives a step by step description..."accurate dribbling is done with your fingertips, not your palms. Your palm shouldn't slap the ball when you dribble. Instead, cup your hand upside down. Keeping the ball on your fingertips will give you better control." This was a great tip for any beginner learning to play basketball and the author did a good job letting them know what they should and shouldn't do. Also, just as the first book, the photographs were of a real life people. They drew me in and had great action shots. There was movement in the pictures and I liked how I knew the people in the photographs were actually shots of them playing live on the court. It was a very great informative text.… (meer)

This is a great informational book that takes the child through an entire day of a Garbage Collector including what they do, how they do it, when they do it, and why they do it. It has fun facts about garbage collecting on many of the pages that child will find fascinating. The book also has a bold face word on almost every page with a glossary in the back of the book for the definition of that word. I like this book because it is short and interesting and would be great for teaching because it is informational and has great words for children to learn. This would be good for 1-3rd grades.… (meer)

Gr 2-4-These early chapter books are about six friends who attend the Victory School for Super Athletes. In the first book, Kenzie is a gymnast whose super strength allows her to dominate when it comes to handsprings and flips, but works against her on the balance beam. After a meet at which she breaks the beam in half, she's too embarrassed to attempt her routine again. Coach Trish and Kenzie's best friend offer encouragement, and, sure enough, when she focuses on channeling her strength, she is able to master the balance beam. In the second book, Danny has the speed necessary to be a great running back, but he finds that faster isn't always better. Eating too fast gives him a stomachache, and racing through his schoolwork is causing him to make so many errors that he is actually suspended from playing a game. As Danny's parents and sister help him learn to slow down and enjoy life, the balance allows him to get his focus back and perform even better in his next football game. Colorful full-page illustrations capture the energy of the friends immersed in their various pursuits, and the short chapters will appeal to sports fans who are making the transition to chapter books--Kim Dare, Fairfax County Public Schools, VA
