TCP/IP is the communications protocol that undergirds the Internet and communications between computers in a network. TCP stands for Transmission Control Protocol. IP stands for Internet Protocol. These protocols specify the manner in which a signal is divided into parts (packets), as well as the manner in which "address" information is added to each packet to ensure that it reaches its destination and can be reassembled into the original message.

This book by Leiden and Wilensky was written to take the mystery out of TCP/IP by explaining how the Internet works in laymen's terms.

This book is not meant to be read from cover-to-cover. The authors recommend the use of this book as a reference.
