~ 3.5 Portrait of a Lone Wolf Stars ~

Portrait of a Lone Wolf is book seven in the Black Hills Wolves series by Katalina Leon. I have been reading this series out of order, which is unusual for me, but each novella feels like they can be read as a stand-a-lone. KLeon is also a new to me author and I found her writing to be enjoyable.

Sela our human comes to Los Lobos to heal and film the wolves in the area. Her character is one that is determined, stubborn, tough, and independent.

Rio our park ranger and full-blooded wolf. He tries to discourage Sela from filing, but when that doesn’t work he decides to help in an unusual way.

As for this series I might understand more about the Los Lobos wolves if I did read the series in order. Each book focuses on one couple. We don’t get to see, learn, or get much of a feel for the Los Lobos wolf pack. What we do get is a quick insta-love, where things move fast between the couple. I like Rio. He had this master plan to take things slow, but that goes up in flames when Sela sees him shift. I liked that he was/is straight forward on what he wants from her. Sela took things rather well after finding out. That first conversation was a little tense, but they got past it. The sex was sensual and sweet for this story, with both parties getting what they needed. We also get an idea of who Sela and Rio are as individuals. Very well developed characters for such a short novella. I also found it interesting to learn that the wolf shifters are derived from the Great Spirit of Waya.

The only thing that bothered me was the ultimate in their first conversation, but that did get rectified.

All around Portrait of a Lone Wolf was a good read. If you enjoy quick insta-love reads, then this book is for you.

I never would have thought a story with a Lycan could have me purring like a kitten.
This story was as funny as it was sexy. I can't wait to see more.

Uncaged (Black Hills Wolves, #25)
by Katalina Leon

I just can't get enough of the Black Hills Wolves. I love a great series and this is a great series. All these authors just do a fantastic job or continuing the story and bringing in new characters. Which is another fantastic part of the Black Hills Wolves. Just more books to look forward to.

Mitchell Waya is basically alone. He has had a lot of tragedy in his life. His family was killed in an accident, then he is able to save a child from being fatally harmed. He has also had some good times in the form of MMA fighting. That is until another tragedy strikes and then another. Now he is hiding out in Los Lobos, where he just wants to be left alone, to heal, but somehow a journalist has found him and he has to make sure she asks her questions and moves on quickly.

Christy has had to grow up fast. Her childhood was taken from her by an insane pedophile. Luckily she was saved by an avenging angel named Mitchell. From the moment she saw him she knew she could trust him and she would be safe with him. Others didn't see things the same way and refused to let her talk to him anymore. She was able to keep track of him though through his MMA fighting. He is known as "Wail'n Waya" and he is great. Four years later, after a bout where he severely injures a man, Mitchell wrecks his car and severely injured himself, then he just drops out of sight. Christy finds out where he is and goes to see him. She wants to prove to herself that he is just a man and not the super human man that she has put up on a pedestal.

They both get more then they bargained for.

Witch Frederica De la Cruz, and lycan Gus Odindon both have issues that need resolving and have no intention of dating anyone. They share a pitcher of “Hoodoo Blue” and are forced to spend time together.

If you’re in the mood for a story that is going to make you laugh, go no further, you have found your book. Hoodoo Blue is a very funny story that kept me giggling.

Fredi and Gus have hilarious issues that kept me amused. Okay, if the issues were happening to me, they might not be so funny but in this story they are. Fredi is having trouble controlling her magic and keeps destroying things around her. While Gus, is about to turn furry because of upcoming full moon. Due to a time released spell they need to stay within a certain proximity of each other. The result is entertaining.

Both characters are quirky and likeable. The story is well-written and easy to follow. I happily finished the book in one sitting. This is a great book to put you in a good mood.
