This is a pretty good nearly up to date book that presents the cause of meteors, the cause of the end of most geologic periods, and the differences between comets and asteroids. It also discusses the skewed probability of object size versus impact on the earth.

The distribution and classed of asteroids are dealt with. Few photos but a lot of ideas and information is presented clearly.
