Abandoned this one early on when the old "God makes everything happen for a reason" was slathered on thick. Ick.

This book straight-up annoyed me. Thoughts I had while reading this:

1. This author is trying too hard and it shows. Instead of telling a story she's stringing together pretty words.

2. This book is so sweet. Now it's saccharine. Now it's cloying.

3. How long has Felicity known Jonah? Less than a month? And she's saying he "always" does this or "never" does that. Really?

4. I'd rather be reading [b:Savvy|2133795|Savvy (Savvy, #1)|Ingrid Law|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1402594623s/2133795.jpg|2596626].

5. I can't take another "What the hayseed?" or "Spindiddly!"

5. I'd rather be reading anything else. I care not for what happens to these characters. I quit.

Okay, so I didn't finish a book with great reviews and a lot of fans. I just don't get it, folks. Too many characters, too many threads, not enough substance.

Midnight Gulch used to be a magical place, a town where people could sing up thunderstorms and dance up sunflowers. But that was long ago, before a curse drove the magic away. Twelve-year-old Felicity knows all about things like that; her nomadic mother is cursed with a wandering heart. But when she arrives in Midnight Gulch, Felicity thinks her luck's about to change. A "word collector," Felicity sees words everywhere---shining above strangers, tucked into church eaves, and tangled up her dog's floppy ears---but Midnight Gulch is the first place she's ever seen the word "home." And then there's Jonah, a mysterious, spiky-haired do-gooder who shimmers with words Felicity's never seen before, words that make Felicity's heart beat a little faster. Felicity wants to stay in Midnight Gulch more than anything, but first, she'll need to figure out how to bring back the magic, breaking the spell that's been cast over the town . . . and her mother's broken heart.… (meer)
