Marshall Robert Loeb was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 30, 1929. He received a journalism degree from the University of Missouri. After graduation, he moved to Germany and worked at an international student house before becoming a correspondent for United Press. After returning to the United toon meer States, he was hired by The St. Louis Globe-Democrat. After a short time there, he was hired by Time magazine. During his 14 years at Time, he worked as a business editor, national editor, and economics editor. In 1980, he became the managing editor of Money magazine and made it profitable again. He was the managing editor of Fortune magazine from 1986 until 1994 and made it profitable again too. He also edited The Columbia Journalism Review, wrote a nationally syndicated personal finance column, and broadcasted daily financial advice on CBS Radio. He received two Gerald Loeb Awards for financial journalism. One of those awards was for lifetime achievement He wrote several books including Plunging Into Politics written with William Safire and Marshall Loeb's Lifetime Financial Strategies.
