I just flipped through the picture book, “Jonesy” by Rory Lucey and it’s great.

It’s a picture book, no text, of the movie, “Alien” but shown from the perspective of Jonesy, the cat in the movie.

Of course, Jonesy doesn’t see the events happening quite the same way the human crew of the Nostromo do, and doesn’t spend all the time with the human crew members, either. He spends plenty of time wandering corridors, doing cat activities, while the humans are exploring alien planets, or hunting the xenomorph. At times Jonesy gets in the way, annoying those humans doing their unimportant things instead of giving pets and pats.

The plot of this book won’t make a whole lot of sense if you haven’t seen the movie, or read the novelization of it.

At first I thought it was humorous that it was presented as a children’s book, but then of course, I remembered I was only 10 when I watched the movie on cable TV, so it’s fitting enough. I guess it was a suitable-for-kids movie.

Artwork-wise, though, in quite a few panels Jonesy is drawn with more of a dog shaped head than cat.

Very cute!

Short and very sweet retelling of the 1979 film "Alien", but from the cat's point of view. Lovely that the cat has no fear of the alien itself, but scratches the upholstery, explores the spaceship, and gives companionship to the astronauts. Colour throughout and contains no words at all.

It is basically the story of Alien from the perspective of the cat. It was fine. I love cats but I was hoping for a different type of story.
