This entry in the Warrior series has good pictures. The text is adequate and offers an accurate description of the "barbarian" tribes and their probable composition. Since the Germanic Society had a relatively metal poor technology, there is a certain amount of conjecture.

This is one of the best Osprey books I've read. It shows a good understanding of the situation in the Eastern Roman Empire as well as the European spaces bordering the great steppe. The analysis of the political and economic situation is good, the treatment of the forces is reasonably detailed and explained.
The battle maps are great, attractive, easy to understand and well organized.
