Korte biografie
Katharine Sarah Macquoid, née Thomas, was born in Kentish Town, London. She was educated privately and travelled extensively throughout Great Britain and France. In 1851, she married Thomas Robert Macquoid, a painter, with whom she had two sons. She made her literary debut in 1859 with a short story published in the magazine Welcome Guest. She became a prolific author, publishing some 60 books as well as articles in periodicals over a period of more than 40 years. She was best known for her novels or romances, many of them historical, and her travel writing. She often collaborated with her husband as illustrator and later with her son Gilbert as writer. Some of her works were published under the pseudonym Gilbert Percy. Her travel narratives included Pictures across the Channel (1872), Through Normandy (1874), Through Brittany (1877), About Yorkshire (1883), and Pictures in Umbria (1905). Her many popular novels included At the Red Glove (1885).
