The book, Mom, Dad, Our Books, and Me was done really well in portraying a love of reading and clarifying what reading is. Specifically, I liked the writing in this book. Each page mentions someone reading, however it's not always a book. "And books are not the only things we read! The fisherman reads the sky for coming storms." I absolutely love that is goes into discussing the way the word "read" can be used, not solely for reading books. "Auntie reads sheet music. She tells wonderful stories made of sound." Through this analysis of how and what people "read," the narrator bonds all of the people in this book together. "But as far as books may take me, I will never lose my way. Because books also bring us together. Mom, Dad, our friends, and me." There is a lot of metaphors in this book for ways reading can impact people. Another aspect of the book that I absolutely loved was the illustrations and how unique each page was. The style of illustrations appears like each individual object has their own design to it, even the clothing and plants and building. These pictures show someone readings, but also show that it doesn't have to be a story book, sometimes it's reading recipes, reading the time, reading poetry, or even reading fortunes. Each image properly portrays the characters "reading" something. Overall, the central message is that reading can bring people of diverse backgrounds together and that you don't have to read books to still be reading and appreciate reading.… (meer)

A unabashed ode to all manner of reading (books, thermometers, watches, and even the sky) - with beautiful illustrations combining cut paper, paint and sketching.

Histoire mignonne d'un petit garçon qui se prend pour un chevalier et résiste à la routine du dodo. Les illustrations sont "étranges", les couleurs sont vraiment particulières et peu intéressantes pour les enfants.
