Easter is approaching, and Teeny Witch and her three witchy aunts - Aunt Icky, Aunt Ticky and Aunt Vicky - are decorating eggs for the big day. As they discuss the holiday on the morrow, mention is made of the Easter Bunny, and of how lucky it is to capture him - so lucky it is like magic! Teeny immediately decides that she will do that very thing, but when she and her cat head to the park, she begins to see a bewildering array of massive rabbits, all of whom seem difficult to catch. What is going on...?

Teeny Witch and the Tricky Easter Bunny is the fourth entry in author Liz Matthews and illustrator Carolyn Loh's eight-volume Teeny Witch picture-book series that I have read, following upon Teeny Witch and the Great Halloween Ride, Teeny Witch and Christmas Magic and Teeny Witch and the Perfect Valentine. Like the others, it features a sweet, winsome witch heroine in Teeny, and is set at a holiday. The entire collection was published in 1991, well after I had moved on from picture-books, but I would imagine that if I had first encountered them in childhood, I would remember them fondly. There's not much to them, really, but they feature fun, witchy stories - something for which I have a decided weakness - and artwork that, while a little too cartoonish for my taste, is colorful and cute. I particularly liked the egg-coloring scene here, as each witch aunt favors the color - green for Aunt Icky, purple for Aunt Ticky, and red for Aunt Vicky - in which she is habitually clothed. Recommended to picture-book readers who appreciate witchy fare, or who have read and enjoyed other stories about Teeny Witch.

Valentine's Day is around the corner, and Teeny Witch begins to wonder what she should get for her beloved aunts, Icky, Ticky and Vicki. Passing a candy shop and spying an extra fancy box of chocolates on display, she decides that this would make the perfect gift. Unfortunately, the box is quite expensive, and Teeny Witch won't have enough money until Valentine's Day itself, when she gets her allowance. As she helps her aunts with various tasks throughout the week, she checks back anxiously at the store, watching as all the boxes of chocolate sell off. Has Valentine's Day been ruined? Or do Teeny Witch's aunts have a surprise in store for her...?

The third picture-book I have read, following upon Teeny Witch and the Great Halloween Ride and Teeny Witch and Christmas Magic, to feature this witchy little heroine and her three loving aunts, Teeny Witch and the Perfect Valentine pairs a sweet, ultimately heartwarming tale from author Liz Matthews, with cute, cartoon-style artwork from illustrator Carolyn Loh. Although the story was somewhat predictable - I was able to guess where those boxes of chocolate went, from the first - it was still engaging, and I appreciated the implicit message that the best way to show our love is to help our loved ones at all times, rather than just giving them presents at holidays. As I have mentioned in some of my other reviews, these Teeny Witch books won't ever be personal favorites, either as witchy picture-books - a particular interest of mine - or as holiday tales, but they are cute, and will undoubtedly have appeal for the target audience.

It's Christmas Eve night, and as Teeny Witch wraps her presents for her Aunt Icky, Aunt Ticky and Aunt Vicky, she finds herself wishing that her home were more festively decorated for the holiday. Unfortunately, these witchy relatives prefer a house that looks spooky, so there are no lights or tree. Later that night, when Teeny Witch hears a noise, she goes downstairs and discovers that Santa has injured himself, and needs her help. After setting out to deliver the rest of the gifts for the children in her neighborhood while Santa rests, she returns to discover that the Christmas gift giver has arranged a special present for her as well...

One of eight little paperback picture-books featuring Teeny Witch and her three aunts, all published in 1991, Teeny Witch and Christmas Magic is the second of the series I have read, after Teeny Witch and the Great Halloween Ride, and features a story that feels quite familiar, in the annals of witchy tales. This is the fourth title that I have read recently, following upon James Brown's Jingle Spells, Wendy Dickson's Wilfrieda the Witch Helps Santa and Norman Bridwell's The Witch's Christmas, to feature the story of a witch who comes to Santa's aid, helping him with his deliveries. I suppose this makes sense, as both witches and Santa have magic, so a witchy tale set at Christmas might be expected to go in this direction. However that may be, the tale here was sweet, even if not particularly memorable, and the accompanying artwork cute, although a little too cartoonish for my taste. I don't know, really, that these Teeny Witch books are that outstanding, but my interest in witchy picture-books - a pet project of mine - will no doubt have me tracking down the rest. Recommended to picture-book readers who enjoy witchy stories and/or cute Christmas fare.

Teeny Witch is looking forward to Halloween as she carves her jack-o-lantern, but then her three witchy aunts - Aunt Icky, Aunt Ticky and Aunt Vicky - remind her of Rule 13, which states that all witches must ride on this important night. Teeny, who doesn't particularly like to ride so high in the sky, isn't thrilled, but accepts that the rules must be followed. After a fun experience with a group of human trick-or-treaters, she prepares to join her aunts, only to find that they have a surprise for her, and have found an unusual way to obey Rule 13...

One of eight little paperback picture-books chronicling the adventures of the eponymous Teeny Witch, all published in 1991, Teeny Witch and the Great Halloween Ride pairs an engaging witchy story with cute, colorful illustrations. Although this one wasn't quite to my taste, aesthetically speaking - the style is too cartoon-like - I did find it appealing, as a witchy tale. I appreciated the imaginative solution dreamt up by Aunt Ticky, in order to keep Teeny Witch happy, but also fulfill the obligation to Rule 13. This isn't what I would call great children's literature, but it is enjoyable, and given my love of witchy picture-books, I will undoubtedly be seeking out the other books in the series.
