Summary:

This book provides information of 20 of the world's key leaders from the 20th century. From Adolph Hitler to Nelson Mandela, this book covers a wide range of leaders and gives the background, major history changing factors, and follow-up for each leader and the time frame they most greatly impacted.

Personal Reaction:

This book is a good resource to introduce these 20 world figures to the classroom lesson and discussion. Some of the names students may have already heard, and some may be new knowledge - but each one played a pivotal role in the history of our world during the 20th century.

Classroom Extensions:

1 - Extra, extra! Learn all about it!! -Divide the students up and assign one leader from the book per student (they could draw names for fun) to research. For the completion of their research, students will write a mock interview for the person they have been assigned. Students could present their interview in written or video (or mock video) format - CNN (Classroom News Network). Focus should reflect asking the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, HOW, and WHY questions.

2 - The back of this book has a glossary with key terms from the text. Using the glossary, students can play a matching game to pair the correct word with the correct definition.

Summary:
This book is a multicultural book about Korean people who came to live in America yet still practice Korean customs. This book starts out by giving the history of the country of Korea and then moves on to how and why Koreans came to live in America. This book then explains the difficulty Koreans had living in America and the Korean War. The book goes on to explain how Korean Americans have adapted to living in the United States. This book explains in detail the culture of Korea from the type of food they cook and eat to holidays they celebrate and why. This book also mentions the distinguished Korean Americans who made a huge difference in Korea throughout their lives.

Personal Reaction:
I liked reading this book. This book is a multicultural book that can be very useful in learning about the country of Korea and its people. I liked the way the book was very descriptive about Korea and its culture and how moving from a different country into America can have a big impact on people. I would keep this book on hand for my teaching career to teach about Korea and its culture. I don't personally know anyone from Korea, but I know several people who have been there mainly due to the military.

Extension Ideas:
1. Have the class write down in their journal three things they learned about Korea and their culture from this book.
2. Prepare and eat Korean food and discuss about Korean culture as a class
3. Have the class write an essay about the Korean culture
