World War I: The Rest of the Story and How It… door Richard J. Maybury

This book is more of a general review of the various ideologies that lead to a world war rather than a detailing of the specific instances that led to World War I. That being said, it it is still an interesting book, and the history surrounding the Spanish American War - often neglected if at all mentioned in the public school system here in the States - was quite enlightening if tragic and sad. Good for an alternative perspective to more common narratives surrounding WWI and WWII.

Whatever Happened to Penny Candy? A Fast, Clear,… door Richard J. Maybury

Based heavily on Austrian economic theory this book does a good job of taking economic concepts and vocabulary and explaining it in layman's terms. Like all the "Uncle Eric" series it is a relatively easy read and geared towards to Middle to High School ages although adults can benefit it as well. One-sided as far as Austrian economics, but the author is honest and open about his bias which is much appreciated.

Evaluating Books: What Would Thomas Jefferson Think… door Richard J. Maybury

The summary of this book in regard to evaluating books can be stated as: Does a book advocate for an enlarged government and spending? The book is 'bad.' Does a book advocate for a smaller government and limited spending? That book is 'good.' This is followed by a short quote by Thomas Jefferson on the topic at hand.

The rest of the books deals with common fallacies, according to the author, propounded by Statists, or those in favor of the mechanism of government as the primary solution to various social issues.

Although I am personally sympathetic to some of Mr. Maybury's viewpoints I found this book to be light on substance and evidence based argument. If one has read his other books in the "Uncle Eric" series there is little that is new in this book that would make me recommend this book.… (meer)

World War II: The Rest of the Story and How It… door Richard J. Maybury

The author gives some locations for facts to support numbers and information on WWII; Roosevelt froze the imports of Japan forcing them to attack America. Roosevelt threw Kimmel under the bus and allowed the military in Pearl Harbor to be used as targets for the Japanese. (Just pawns in his goal for bigger power?)
There are a few good points to consider. However, I feel the author only gets it half right as he either chooses to ignore the rest of it or is ignorant of the rest.

The people who inhabit the 6.6% of the earth that is Europe have spent thousands of years trying to conquer each other... I am sure the World Trade Center would still be standing.
Did he not read what he wrote/typed in the above, that these Europeans have been spending thousands of years trying to conquer each other? That the terrorists of the WTC (depending on what story you believe) was in fact done by an ideology of people that are hell bent on trying to conquer the world. The world, not just Europe. (this isn't hate speech by me, but hate speech by muslim imams.) Their attacks are not due to blowback as the author claims, but in their words, 'they want to re-establish the caliphate, to restore islamic law and wage offensive jihad.' this is the moderate muslim viewpoint.
So though I consider the book worth reading, don't read it without using some brain cells to sift through the facts and the authors opinions.… (meer)
