The story opens as Eliana Zwick waits at the hospital for her husband. The last thing she remembers is wearing a torn dress and a carrying a shoe with a broken heel. The psychiatrist says her amnesia is caused by trauma and is most often temporary. Eliana is afraid to return home but has nowhere else to go.
Cal, her husband drives her to a castle like structure at the top of a mountain. I cannot understand why a women cares for a man like him. They live at the top of a mountain, yet she is afraid of heights. He surely knows she is in danger, however, spends little time with her.
