I've always been fascinated by a good ghost tour, and I'm glad I had Deputy Tempe Crabtree with me on this one. In Spirit Shapes we ventured into the haunted abandoned house where a murder victim was found, and I appreciated learning from Tempe's native American sense about such other-worldly matters while my hair stood on end. Marilyn Meredith creates believable characters, writes with great knowledge of police procedure and, in this case, crafts a mystery with multi-dimensional spirituality. It has been a month since I've written a review on my blog. We have been in the middle of state testing for the past month. It was a pleasure to read this wonderful book. I will definitely be reading more of her work. On April 24th the author was a guest on my blog. You can find that here.

Tempe Crabtree is a law officer and her husband a pastor. She is able to communicate with ghosts. As she and her husband prepare for a vacation she has agreed to help out a ghost hunter who is trying to help a woman with a spirit problem. When they arrive the police are there. It seems a murder has taken place on the property.

What made this book so wonderful is that it is the ultimate in mysteries. You have a cop who communicates with spirits, especially if they are Native Americans. You have her husband who is a pastor, yet has helped her in many cases. It seems that the two belief systems would fight each other. The great thing about this book is that you can feel the tension between Tempe and her husband. At the same time you know that he has her spiritual back. The author has created characters that you really begin to care about. For those of us who love reading about legends or Native Americans you get a great amount of it in this book. This is the first Tempe Crabtree Mystery I have read and it will not be my last. The protagonist is a smart woman offering the attributes of patience and tolerance as well as insight and procedural know-how. Other engaging characters and a representation of the people on Bear Creek Reservation, throwing in a Hairy Man, Meredith presents a mystery until its very end—one that slowly quenches the thirst for mystery and a good read.
