I was expecting a little more spanish throughout this story, but I did love the basketball aspect, and I think it was a good story. I worry that this is sort of a stereotypical perspective, although shows resilience, that would be my only concern.

Tavo represents myself at a younger age when I couldn't afford new basketball shoes, but I would still play on the dirt court in my backyard. Tavo also reminds me of the time I spent working in the yard with my dad. I shoveled the rocks and swept the dirt ground that would eventually become my basketball court, so I can relate to Tavo's struggles.

Encouraging story of being optimistic despite have hard times and sneakers being held with duct tape.

Use to help students from lower SES backgrounds to know that there is no shame in having used things. What matters is the attitude you have when you wear them.
