Korte biografie
Philippe Meyer was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, near Paris, France. His parents were Denise and André Ruben Meyer (1903-1979), a prominent doctor and university professor. Philippe Meyer also became a physician and was a professor at the Necker Hospital in Paris, Paris-Descartes University Faculty of Medicine, and the Charité Hospital at Humboldt University of Berlin. He was named a member of the Academie des Sciences. Prof. Meyer was a specialist in arterial hypertension, and wrote about 100 scholarly papers on this subject. He was also a professor of the history of the philosophy of medicine. He was the author of numerous collections of essays, including La Révolution des médicaments, mythes et réalités (1984) and Philosophie de la médecine (2000). In addition, he wrote books about French history, especially of the Alsace region. Prof. Meyer was married to journalist Sylvie Pierre-Brossolette.
