The first chapter of this book, or I guess the preface, had me intrigued. Lots of stuff to explore in that short section and lots of stuff to uncover and find out about. Eagerly I began the first Part and at first I wasn't let down.

Riley is a bonafide HBIC (Head B**ch in Charge) and she's proud of it. She's a legendary tattoo artist, treasure to her community, adoring older sister and she dragged herself up out of a very bad life thanks to Preacher man. In between her brother becoming Mr. Hyde Riley reminds us, almost every two pages, how bad a life she scraped herself up out of.

She's worried about Seth because she knows the kind of crap that goes down in the Shady parts of Savannah. She's been there, done that and doesn't want that for him. Truly I get it. I understand she redeemed herself through hardwork and will power to give Seth a good life. Its admirable! I just wish she wouldn't tell us every single time the thought crosses her mind that her brother may be mixed up in bad stuff.

On the one hand I can see that Jasper is trying to set up backstory for later on, so that we see that Riley has credentials to back up her claims and orders, but it became too much. By the time that knowledge came in handy I was so sick of hearing about her BAMF (Bada$$ Mo-fo) days that I really wanted something to happen. Anything at all.… (meer)

6/10, this story was mostly good right up until the ending where it just ruined it for me and it's such a shame that it did and if it wasn't for that I actually would've enjoyed this one and gave it a higher rating but it didn't turn out this way. It starts off with Ivy moving to Scotland much to her disagreement and she now lives in a castle away from everyone else where she meets this cold isolated figure named Elizabeth which sounds familiar by the way, anyways she and Ivy don't get along at first and then she meets some random ghost named Lucas and she develops an attraction with him but for some reason he reveals the secrets of the castle like the history and most importantly a ring which will come into play later on in the plot. Towards the latter half Ivy wonders about those secrets and especially the last one and wonders why Elizabeth is such a cold person all of the time but then she notices a ring she wore on her finger and it was the same one that Lucas mentioned and she took it off and oh wow, Elizabeth is all better now and the story just ends so conveniently like that and don't get me started on the writing style since it felt so rushed and non descriptive. If you like paranormal books try Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo rather than this.… (meer)

I have had this book on my to read list for a while now. A while meaning at least 1 year or so. As i was thumbing through my to-read list for something interesting to read, i decided that it was time to try this book. It has a very YA cover and title, and even though i read YA books (there are really many good ones for adults) i had read my share of really bad ones.

This one was different: Sometimes, you don't know what your craving or like, until you have it and then you wonder what in the world took you so long to try it. Well, this book fits the bill. It plays in Savannah Georgia, and i did not know how much i enjoy reading books in history ridden places.
The female main character is fun, strong, and kick butt. But she also has a responsible side to her. The other characters include vampires and gullah. The vampires are nicely different, as in they can be out during the day and consume human food for pleasure, something i always look enjoy reading.
I don't usually tell the story line or give spoilers, but i rather tell you that the author does not dip into the obvious cliches, the story continues on nicely without becoming too boring. I actually always looked forward to opening this book and reading a few pages.

If I could give more than just whole stars, i would. I can only recommend this book to anyone that likes Urban Fantasy or to someone who would want to ease into the genre. I am uploading the next book to my ereader and that is another series i am adding to my growing list of series.… (meer)

This book continues the story of Riley, Eli, Seth, Nyx and the others. This time the story branches out from Savannah to Charleston. It is extremely refreshing to read stories that play in other town, not just always New Orleans or some nondescript made up geographical area. To be honest, I would love to go to Savannah and see the area and just maybe glance a look at some of the others.
The author has a marvelous talent as story teller. I am glad i found this series and hope she will continue to stay true to her own story line, and not what fans want to read… (meer)
