This a broad-brush survey of the Russian Navy, and is carried into the Cold War period from the initial attempts by Peter the Great to acquire a modern European force. Russia has obvious difficulties, the lack of Direct access to any oceans but the Pacific is the most glaring, but they have tried to cope with these limitations. So this is a necessary but not brilliant addition to the library of those striving to explore the past of what is now a major naval force.
