Final Fire: A Memoir door Michael Mitchell
Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten.As a photographer interested in travel and new experiences I wanted to like this book. But it didn't capture my interest and attention. I kept looking forward for the good parts or where it might become more interesting. All of the memoir stories and events are meaningful to the author and he works to demonstrate how these fit into the bigger world on a historical basis. I enjoyed the handful of photographs in the book (and wished for many more).
This is not a book of "beautiful" photographs, but they are moving and artistic, while also being sobering and thought-provoking. For anyone who has never taken more than a cursory look at the oil and gas industry, this is a shocking set of photographs. The sheer immensity of the oil fields and refineries boggles the mind. Add to that the associated auto industry and its spinoffs, and it is hard not to fear the impact we are having on the planet. The accompanying essays add data and analysis that should further sober anyone who is not already fully aware of the environmental impact we are having on the earth as a result of our love affair with oil.… (meer)
