In this story, Mother Nature has thrown the temper tantrum of all time & ninety percent of the earth's surface is now covered with water. Most terrestrial animals are extinct & most people have taken to the seas. Myra lives with her daughter Pearl in a boat her grandfather built, sailing from port to port, fishing to support themselves. When Myra earns that her eldest daughter, Row, kidnapped by her husband Jacob seven years earlier, might possibly be alive, she & Pearl embark on a journey to find her.
The first impression I got from this novel when I started reading it was of an updated version of the movie Waterworld with a female protagonist (with way less interesting quirks). Which was pretty much what it is. One thing that was different though was you really think about what you would do in such a situation, how would you react? It also made me really glad (again) that I'm not a mum lol! I mostly enjoyed this book & seeing the relationships between different people but it was a little too close to reality for me to want to read it again.… (meer)
