Frommer's Northern Italy: with Venice, Milan and the… door John Moretti
Eh.... good for typical tourists I think. This was the only guide book I could find that included Trieste, which is apparently not much of a tourist destination in Italy. I ripped out the phrases in the back and kept those with me the entire trip, which was helpful, but I could have just purchased a phrase book. Anyway, now I have it for "next time"!

This was a lovely book, shipped to me in my Escapes Monthly subscription two months back with the themed Italy box (along with the Turni book I read and reviewed last week). I loved breezing my way through all the information on Italy and it just made me sure Italy is totally up there in my top 10-30 countries I definitely want to see in the future. Gorgeous travel book all over the history, food, places to go, how to live there in every sense of the world, epic sweeping parts of Italy's vastly changing history.… (meer)

Frommer's is typically a good overview with some good neighborhood maps. Some of the restaurants and hotels are not accurate as far as whether or not they are open.
There good maps inside which have detailed maps of many cities throughout the region. I found the sights to be well covered even in smaller more obscure towns.
