Anne Frank is a Jewish girl who lived during the holocaust she was born in Frankfurt but moved to Amsterdam to escape the Nazis that were trying to kill all of the Jewish people. The book described Anne as a curious and extroverted girl. Her story started in a small neighborhood in Frankfurt, Germany. But soon after Adolf Hitler was named chancellor of Germany in 1933, all of the Frank's German neighbors started to dislike them and stop talking to them. But when to Jewish children were starting to be treated differently at school, the Franks moved to an apartment in Amsterdam.

Soon after moving to Amsterdam, Anne made a friend named Hannah Goslar. Hannah was also Jewish. the girls were always playing together. Little did the Franks know that soon Amsterdam was to be invaded by the Nazis like Frankfurt was. In July 1942 Anne Frank would have to go into hiding with her family in the attic of a shop. and on August fourth, she would be discovered by the Nazis and taken to Auschwitz concentration camp with her family and then transported again to Bergen Belsen concentration camp with her sister Margot. Summary: This chapter book is about a young Jewish girl, Anne Frank, in 1942 who has to go into hiding with her family from the Nazis during World War II. This book discusses the horror of the Holocaust and how Jewish people were treated during this time period. It is about the experiences and quality of life Anne had for two years hiding in an attic space. Anne Frank was able to document her experience in a diary to pass onto future generations and instill others with the horrid events that took place so long ago.

Argument: This is a great chapter book for older children to read because it discusses an important period of time and informs students of the evil events that have taken place in our history because of discrimination and prejudice. I enjoyed this chapter book for many reasons. The first reason I liked it was that it not only talked about Anne and her family but it also talked about the Holocaust in its entirety-from concentration camps to World Two and even life after liberation. For example, on page 8 it discusses the start of the Nazi party in World War II and Hitler coming into power. The second reason I enjoyed this book was the timeline of Anne's life on the first few pages. There were so many dates in this book and having a timeline of events that shows Anne's story really put it into perspective for me the large amount of events that took place in her life in such a short amount of time. The last reason of why I enjoyed this book were the photographs. All of the photos in this book were real photos from the time period and from Anne's life. They added so much more to the story and allowed me to visualize and picture every detail of Anne's life. I also liked how the author put a caption/description under each picture to describe it in more detail.
The main theme of this book is the power of discrimination and prejudice against one group of people or culture/ethnicity. It shows the destruction and loss that prejudices can cause and how they not only hurt one group of people but the world.… (meer)
