Mary McDonagh Murphy was born in Rhode Island. She graduated from Wesleyan University. She was honored as a John S. Knight fellow at Stanford University. She is a film and T.V. producer and writer. She has produced several documentaries for PBS including Cry for Help about mental illness in teens. toon meer Another one of her projects is a study on the social history of the board game Monopoly. She wrote Scout, Atticus, and Boo: A Celebration of Fifty Years of To Kill a Mockingbird. In the book she interviews famous people such as Tom Brokaw and Oprah Winfrey about their thoughts on the famous novel. She even interviews Harper Lee's sister Alice Finch Lee about the 50th anniversary. She was also a producer for the Television news show 60 minutes for twenty years.
