Maybe I ought to look at this before I next venture there (although the pub date is 1969).
The authoritative, comprehensive reference set on world art. Subject matter consists of representational arts in the broadest sense, architecture, sculpture, painting, and other man-made objects with no limits as to time, place, or cultural environment.
The essential reference work for the arts throughout history. Nothing like it had existed before, and no publisher attempted anything remotely similar afterward. It is, quite simply, the best ever of its kind. A masterpiece.
