I was thrilled to get a copy of this ARC, especially when I learned that Patricia Eddy's included novella would be a follow-up to her recent novel, Twisted Captive. My initial review is for her novella alone, with an update below after having read the anthology.

Crowned Torment opens with Kat, a human in the human realm, unhappily seeking an artifact for the demanding boss of a video game company. Of course, said artifact is cursed, binds itself to the unsuspecting woman, and somehow transports her to the realm of the Fae.

Adrian, the son of the former king, is slowly healing from the centuries of magical torment and imprisonment that he faced at his father's hands. He stumbled across Kat, saves her life in one harrowing moment, and then finds himself drawn to both her and the mystery of her curse.

Though from different worlds and both struggling with the ill-effects of magic, they must come together to break the curse and put a stop to the forces behind it - and see if they can walk away from each other at the end.

I enjoyed Twisted Captive, and this novella was a great sequel to its events. We got to see how Adrian fared after his release, and meeting Kat gave him purpose he desperately needed, both in finding a reason to heal himself and to take a place back amongst the Fae. The chemistry ad pull between him and Kat was immediate and fierce, which is nothing less than I'd expect from any of Patricia Eddy's stories.

Updated to add:

The anthology as a whole has a great mix of stories, and it has definitely led me to look into a couple of the other authors' works as a result. Overall, a great read, with something for everyone to enjoy.

So, based on the title, which is Book One of Witches of Tower Hill, this appears to be a series. Personally, I don’t think I will be reading the rest unless I get a reading copy.

HOWEVER, that isn’t to say that this is a bad series. It was actually quite enjoyable. This series, I would say, is aimed at middle schoolers/high schoolers. And it does that job well. I just am not feeling it.

Well written and with a complex story that reveals itself at a good pace, but the writing style just isn’t my taste. I enjoy a more complex writing style.

Again, this was a GOOD book, would recommend giving it a try if you are thinking about it. Definitely, if you are a middle schooler/high schooler, this is an excellent choice.

High fantasy lovers? Stay away. Harry Potter lovers? Give it a try. Others… well… I don’t know what to tell you.

I gave it a try. The plot was good. Maybe think about giving it a try.

"Half Moon Girls" by Corinne O'Flynn is one of the entries in the Lei Crime series, set in the world created by Toby Neal. I have not yet read the original novels these spin-off novellas are based on, but I thought that might give me a unique perspective since my first experience with this world is through another author's intrepretation of Neal's work.

I have to say I was thoroughly impressed by Corinne O'Flynn's entry. Based on this novella alone, I definitely want to check out the rest of the novellas and the original books they were based on. Ms. O'Flynn was able to pack a novel's worth of action and characterization within the confines of a novelette. I immediately fell in love with Lei and the world she inhabits.

We are treated to a very well-fleshed out story that was tight, concise and action-packed, but still allowed room for great characterizations, descriptions and sense of place. I have never particulary had a yearning to visit Hawaii or its surrounding islands, however, I do now. I could almost smell the flowers, hear the gulls and the murmur of the ocean and feel the sand between my toes.

This is a unique and fascinating world and ""Half Moon Girls"" was an excellent introduction into it."

**I was provided a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review**
