Poet and screenwriter Konstantin Pavlov was born in a small village near Sofia, Bulgaria on April 2, 1933. He was one of the few Bulgarian intellectuals who asserted their professional independence during the 1945-1989 Communist regime. Even though censors imposed a decade-long publishing ban toon meer against him in 1966, he gained popularity with such works as Sweet Agony, The Murder of the Sleeping Man, and A Long Time Ago. He received the Grand Prix at the Karlovy Vary film festival for his screenplay of the film Illusion in 1980. He died following a long illness on September 28, 2008 at the age of 75.
