Napoleon Perdis

While there are a few tips in here I hadn't read elsewhere, I don't think this book is worth it for the full price. Firstly, much of it is just an ad for Napoleon Perdis cosmetics. While you expect any artist with their own brand to mention their own products, it is a bit OTT in this book - the first half is full of lists of his products (and how great they are) and the instructions in the second half of the book constantly refer to specific products rather than 'a beige shadow/light bronzer/red lip' etc.
Secondly, the instructions for certain 'looks' rarely show step-by-step illustrations, just written instructions. Much of the advice for various age groups is stuff most women will know (even if they don't often follow it). And finally, there is a lot of blather about 'anti-oxidents' and 'toxins' which has no basis in actual proven fact.

After all that - it's not a bad book. If you really don't know much about make-up it would probably be interesting, but there are better books for learning about make-up out there (try Rae Morris or Kevin Aucoin).… (meer)
