Korte biografie
Initially published small literary magazines, Richard Perez has also written for The New York Times (reference: "From Grit To Gloss," a headline story about the East Village and the demise of bohemia). His first novel, The Losers' Club (aka: The Losers' Club: Complete Restored Edition) was a small press success, with three foreign translations to date: Korean, Turkish, Italian. PERMANENT OBSCURITY: or a Cautionary Tale of Two Girls and Their Misadventures with Drugs, Pornography, and Death -- his second novel -- also reflects his infatuation with bohemia and willful nonconformists.

Richard Perez is Latino.

Truly a struggle to get through. Amateur-ish, to be kind.

How many people read this book based on an Amazon recommendation?

I finished the book today and, while there was a character that I liked (Baby), I can honestly say I didn't really like the book.

The ideas were good, there was definitely a story there but the way it was put together in the book just wasn't for me. The sex and drugs in the story didn't bother me at all. It fit with the storyline and wasn't just there as a shock factor.

This was recommended on the back of Bright Lights, Big City in some corner of the internet. It is certainly quirky and an okay read, I can see why people would see similarities between the two.

For me though, Bright Lights, Big City is an underrated classic. This just does not have the execution and can be a bit hit-and-miss in parts.

Unfortunately, the book did not do anything for me at all. I must admit I did not even finish reading it, which is a very rare thing indeed. I am not quite sure what the author wanted to achieve, either. It went rambling on aimlessly, introducing random (female) characters. Maybe this is what it is like to be in a guy's head? I am so sorry, should that be the case. :-(
