I thought Perot was a joke back when he ran for president. Now that almost 20 years have passed, I realize, on reading this for the first time, that he was right on...at least for current times. A focus on the debt, but also for education.

It is very intereting that in his new book on the failure of the US Friedman of the NY Times refers to Perot as an important figure as a third party candidate, whose campaign theme reduction of the deficit actually led (or so Friedman believes) led to Clinton's deficit reduction action.

Am Amazon reviewer wrote
"The book ends by explaining the virtues of having a 3rd party candidate in the next elections. Sure, he/she won't be able to become president, but can be a positive influence in getting the parties come to a more centrist view. To support this point he takes the example of TR (Bull Moose party), George Wallace and Ross Perot, and points out the positive influence they had."
