This would be a good cookbook to have if we ever returned to pioneer days. It is also good for someone interested in eating wholesome foods with ingredients they have grown. I'm thinking of the fresh/local movement. The recipes sound good, since the Shakers were meatless for a time, many are suitable for vegetarians. The author has also included many interesting facts about the Shakers and their lifestyles, though it feels as if she is seeing them through rose-colored glasses. I'm not sure about the soundness of some of her food history information, either, but still, this makes for an interesting cookbook to read and try.… (meer)
