Gregory is a boy who does not enjoy mathematics. However, he comes from a family of mathematic geniuses who expect the same from him. Gregory's passion is for writing. When Gregory finds out that his best friend is moving away, he decides that this summer must be great. He and his friend decide to go to writer's camp together. The one problem is that Gregory's family expects him to go to math camp. Gregory decides that if he can impress his father by winning a math contest, then his father will have to let him go to writing camp. Somewhere along the way, Gregory realizes that he can use his passion for writing to make math more tolerable and understandable.
This book would make a great addition to any classroom library. It shows that it is okay to have different interests from those of your family. It is encouraging the way that Gregory uses his passion for one subject to help him understand another subject. The book also introduces math subjects that may be new to some students.… (meer)
