Summary: This book discusses Mayan way of life from beginning to end. It also discusses their amazing architecture, technology, and art.

Personal reaction: I liked this book because it shows why they are in the state they are now. It tells of a people who whose culture is nearly extinct still struggle to preserve their culture.

Extension Ideas: Produce music with Mayan instruments. Produce Mayan pottery. Learn hieroglyphics.

"The Cherokee" is an informative book that tells about who the Cherokee are, their villages and clans that they had. It also tell about their daily lives, and how they preformed ceremonies and festivals. The story also includes how the Cherokee people were forced out of their land in the Southeastern part of the United States. This move is better known as the Trail of Tears. "The Cherokee" also informs readers on how the Cherokee live today and how they try to keep a lot of their ancient culture.

Personal Views:
I think that this book does a great job informing children about a different culture that is present in the United States today. I think that the book is well written and allows readers to see how Cherokees lived and what they wore in the photos and illustrations.

Extensions:
1. Have the children do some research on the house that they Cherokee lived in when English settlers first arrived and have them make a small model of them.
2.Take vocabulary from the book.
