- Anna Radziwill was the daughter of Prince Krzysztof Mikolaj Radziwill and his wife Zofia Popiel. She studied history at Warsaw University and then worked as a schoolteacher. Her first published work, Educational Ideology of the Sanacja (1967), based on her doctoral thesis, was banned by the Communist authorities.
Though she continued in her career as a teacher, most of Anna Radziwill’s works concerned the history of Polish education. She wrote for underground newspapers such as Wiez and Res Publica and became an advisor to the Solidarity movement. With the fall of the Communist regime, Anna Radziwill was elected to the Polish Senate, and was appointed Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Education. In 1992, she resigned this post to return to teaching. She collaborated with Wojciech Roszkowski to produce new history teaching manuals for primary schools that helped overhaul the teaching of history in Poland. She returned to public life as Deputy Minister of Education in 2004.
