Derek Randall

Derek Randall was for a while one of the most well known figures in world cricket, a batsman who gained fame more for his eccentric actions on the field than his batting exploits (save his 174 in the Centenary Test). I was therefore looking forward to reading his autobiography and his unorthodox views on cricket and life. Sadly Randall does not seem to have written this book.

"Sun has got his hat on" appears to be the product of Randall talking to an Alan Lee who then removed any of Randall's personality from the finished product. There's a section in the book where Randall pushes for Test Grounds to provide full refunds in the case of rain, which, if there were an award for "section least likely to come verbotem from author", the publishing company could surely stamp "Award winning" on the next edition of "Sun has got his hat on".… (meer)
