Jr. Edmund J. Raus

Reminiscences of Harriet A. Dada, a native of Oswego and Cortland Counties in upstate New York. Prior to the start of the war Dada was a teacher with the Choctaw Indians. She returned home quietly before the war started so that she would not find herself in enemy territory. While on assignment at several military hospitals during the war ( including Alexandria VA, Winchester VA, Harpers Ferry VA, Aquia Creek, VA, Washington DC and Gettysburg PA, Chattanooga TN) Dada wrote a series of letters home. In 1884 her letters were published in a 10 part series of srticles published in the National Tribune. In 1868 Dada obtained a degree in medicine from the Medical College for Women in NYC. She went to Syracuse New York and practised homeopathic medicine. She married a minister in 1873 and died in 1909 at age 74. Excellent little book about an outstanding woman.… (meer)
