'The Race' puts a fun twist on the original fable, 'The Turtoise and the Hare'. This is an adorable story about Turtoise and Hare, and the adventure they endure on their way to New York at two opposite speed levels. Turtoise believes he will win at a slow and steady pace, while Hare is confident he will win going at the fasted speed. On his way to New York, Hare sees multiple countries, and experiences many various types transportation with multiple hardships, while Turtoise cruises along contently on his boat. Hare arrives in New York in second place behind Turtoise, who confidently stated in the beginning that slow and steady wins the race, and it absolutely does in this book. This book is great for a social studies lesson, with discussing different types of transportation. It is also a great discussion book for teaching children that being cocky does not get you anywhere in life, as well as never under-estimating or judging someone else. Lastly, the rhyming words are great for developing young readers' rhyming skills.… (meer)
