Absolutely beautiful book by David Richo, a psychotherapist and former priest who has a delicate, mystical touch, deftly leading the reader into deeper and deeper levels of friendship with the Source of All Being. I love this little book, especially for Richo's use of alchemical images and his impressive familiarity with the work of other great spiritual writers.

Audience: People of faith at any stage of the spectrum (new to their faiths or established in them) who have a bit of a Bohemian streak -- if Carl Jung resonates with them, so will this book.… (meer)

Work with your triggers to find peace in the painful moments and lasting emotional well-being.

Psychotherapist David Richo examines the science of triggers and our reactions of fear, anger, and sadness. He helps us understand why our bodies respond before our minds have a chance to make sense of a situation. By looking deeply at the roots of what provokes us--the words, actions, and even sensory elements like smell--we find opportunities to understand the origins of our triggers and train our bodies to remain calm in the face of painful memories.

The book offers in-the-moment exercises on how to process difficult emotions and physical manifestations in order to to cultivate the inner resources necessary to deal with recurring memories of trauma. When we are triggered, Richo writes, "we are being bullied by our own unfinished business." Explore what your body's knee-jerk reactions can teach you. Triggers: How We Can Stop Reacting and Start Healing acts as a guide to your body's powerful responses, helping you to remain calm under pressure and discover the key to emotional healing.

I have always held the belief that all things happen for a reason, even bad things. This is one of the reasons I decided to read this book. I also wanted something I could knock off in an afternoon and this seemed short enough for that.

Unfortunately I found it a little to spiritual for my taste. I am sure that people with a strong spiritual background would find this book enlightening or reassuring. I did find some aspects interesting, such as psychological discussions of mindfulness, however the Jungian philosophy and extreme inclusion of quotes from Shakespeare to Dickinson put me off. If I want to explore how synchronicity affects me, the last person I want to listen to is Emily Dickinson! So this book may be good for some, but it didn't do it for me.… (meer)
