In my opinion, “From Kalamazoo to Timbuktu!” is a good book for younger children because it teaches the reader about taking a trip to different places around the world. The story starts with a brother and sister, Millie and Mike, taking a trip together to go from their hometown of Kalamazoo to a far away place, Timbuktu. The brother and sister use many different ways of traveling with one another. When there is a bump in the road with whatever type of transportation they are using at that time, they always have a back up plan to get to their destination. One way of transportation was by taking a bus or flying in a plane to get to where they wanted to go. Mike and Millie participated in canoeing in Hawaii. “Whale ran aground in sunny Hawaii. Mike and Millie waved good-bye-i. We’re canoeing to Timbuktu! They watched a hula-hula-hu, They set off in a new canoe.” I enjoyed the illustrations, done by Tanya Roitman, which help to showcase the story. She uses bright colors in her illustrations, helping to make the story more real and gain attention from the readers. When Mike and Millie were exploring, before getting to Timbuktu, there was a picture of a map with the world with the exact location of each place. I thought this was extremely informative because if someone would want to take a trip to Timbuktu, they would know the location they were looking for when abroad. As the story progresses, the audience is able to really understand all the types of transportation Mike and Millie use to travel to Timbuktu. Some of the things children learn while reading this book would be, where Timbuktu is located on a map, the diverse ways of transportation, and how one can get from one place to another. The big idea of the story is for children to explore different ways to get from one place of the world to another.… (meer)

I read Do you wear diapers, in exchange for review from Edelwiess. The book was written by Tanya Roitman and published by Blue Apple Books. The book was a quick read and the kids loved it. I also chose it because my youngest is still in diapers and my oldest is in pull-ups.

The book asks different animals do you wear diapers? and each animal responds with how they go to the bathroom. For example, the bear poops in the woods and the tiger poops in the jungle. The other animals respond with where they poop at. The book also teaches kiddies about animal habitats. Loved the book.… (meer)

This cute little interactive finger puppet book can be used to bring awareness to potty training. This is an especially fun read for parents whose kid(s) may be struggling with being potty trained.
