This is a wonderful view of the societal and class constructs of the relationship between domestic worker's families and the employing family. Mary Romero conducted a twenty year field study, which followed several children of domestic workers. The most in depth story was that of Olivia, who became a favorite of the family her mother worked for, to the extent that they had her sleep in the family quarters and paid for her to attend a prestigious school. This is a great look into identity and socially constructed roles based on ethnicity.
