It would be extremely naive to think that most governments in the world do not have some kind of underground facility in case of emergency. While this is a thorough investigation into underground complexes in the States, it is not hard to see the hand of the conspiracy theorist looming large. It is hard to see, however that this man has a Phd when he resorts to things like this:

"Virtually any house anywhere, or any building, large or small, is capable of concealing an entrance to an underground facility. This is not the same, of course, as saying that every house and building that one sees is, in reality, a disguised underground base entrance."

No, really? What a redundant second sentence.

The first three and a half chapters were relatively straight forward informative discussions on the description, location and design of secret underground facilities. Yet towards the end of the third chapter the author relents and allows his imagination to run wild suggesting that the numbers of people who vanish without a trace in the US may be being shipped to underground locations where they are exterminated or held as prisoners in the style of some Nazi concentration camp. The author admits he can offer no proof,

"but considering the large numbers of disappeared people and the existence of dozens of underground installations operating behind a thick security veil it occurs to me that the possibility is at least conceivable."

Sure it is...and if a list of undesirable trouble makers who should be incarcerated in Auschwitz-like underground facilities existed, the author would probably be on it.

The illustrations of underground facilities and photos of mining equipment was interesting from a logistical point if view. The author unfortunately then goes and spoils it all by describing some mining
techniques as being "straight out of Buck Rodgers" or referencing the movie Total Recall (the Arnie one).

I also found the discussion on the alien abduction theory interesting. Rather than little green men grabbing people, it is covert government reps who probe individuals, steal sperm, inject monitoring devices
or implant embryos for some grand stealthy breeding programme. While this is relatively extreme, but not unheard of (eg. reminiscent of Lebensborn) it is more feasible than space aliens wanting to see what makes us tick.

Additionally the author's theory regarding cattle mutilations makes more sense than aliens. Although I am not sure whether or not the author has watched the Simpsons movie a few too many times...black ops EPA controlled helicopters swooping down to grab poor unsuspecting cattle, whisk them into the air, kill and hack them up with portable lasers, drain their blood and then gently deposit them back to earth before making a quick get away with their ill gotten bovine gains...

All in all a relatively interesting read although fanciful in places. A good use of a couple of spare hours.
