It was pretty good overall, not the best but better than average. It has some of the annoying features of YA novels, but is tolerable, and gets better the further in the story
Good book, interesting characgter, intersting setting, interesting skill sets.
Why 4 and nor 5 stars? Because the "game"world does not count. Noone is interested in the stories the game tells, noone gives a damn about a NPC about the settings beside the reasons to use this or that item in that surrounding.

New London is a nice addition to the universe. The new shards adds another flavor and therefore keeps the story interesting and changing. I liked the story around the MC a lot and the new characters they meet are fun.
On the down side, the second story arc that doesn't follow the MC and his friends is just not my thing. It feels very artificial and is much slower than the other more action oriented and fast paced main story line. Fortunately they don't have so much room and in the end i fast forwarded over them and that didn't diminished my fun with the other stuff.
Overall I hope the story moves forward and the story arcs come together.… (meer)

Rick Scott has a talent to write good stories. Why only 3 stars? Because like in the first book of the crystal shards series the first book seems to be a one and only bashing on the MC. Starting low and getting battered more and more without any relief or hope.
WAY TOO strong and way too long for my taste till he find the first sparks of strength. Where is the fun in that. It feels like watching someone slowly drowning.
Regardless of that the culture is rich, the characters distinct (even if they are a bit too stereotype) the cultivation system seems interesting. I just hope in the next books the MC gets a bit more fresh air to breathe and to find more of his strength.… (meer)
