Recently widowed American Ariel Shepard is working to renovate the old French chateau that her husband bought shortly before his death when he planned for them to do this together and to make it a vacation destination. Her best friends are British expat Katherine who is also a shop owner and Pippa. Together they try to fit in with the villagers, are motivated to find a murderer, and irritate the Brigadier. It's a fun story with quite a bit of situational humor, misunderstandings, red herrings, and amazing plot twists all held together by suspense. Loved it!
I requested and received an EARC from Severn House via NetGalley. Thanks!

This book's premise is good and it was definitely fun reading a mystery set in San Francisco with lots of accurate details, but there was not enough time spent on the mystery or the source of the mystery, the King's Jar, and too much time spent on uninteresting details about socialites. It also would have been nice to have more about how museum exhibits actually come to be, from conception to funding to implementation.

A widow, a thief, and a body!

Mention of Julia Child, Beouf Bourguignon, red wine and baguette, and author Shea had me at the first paragraph.
Widowed Ariel Shepherd is astounded to find Daniel, her beloved husband of only four years had bought her a ruined château in Burgandy. It was to be a surprise.
Ariel impulsively sells their Manhattan apartment and moves to France, and hopefully a new chapter in her life.
What she didn’t count on was finding the dead body of a woman, a Sorbonne educated academic, whose area of interest was the provenance of châteaux of Burgundy, in the moat. Madame Breton had been looking into Ariel’s legal forms. Something about them had Madame puzzled.
So early on I had my suspicions about things, although they kept being muddied, as bodies piled up.
A cozy mystery that had me salivating over the food descriptions more than anything else.

A Severn House ARC via NetGalley.
Many thanks to the author and publisher.

I was really hoping that the second book in this series would show an improvement of the character development, but no luck. The Characters didn't seem to really have any life and they were very 2 dimensional. Beside the lack of character development there are also too many characters to keep everything straight.

I will not be continuing this series.
