Cybill Shepherd

I enjoyed reading about Ms. Shepherd's experiences. My oI was disappointed to read that she and Baranski got along so poorly on the set on her self-titled show. Two of my favorite lines of all time were delivered by Christine Baranski in relation to that show.

As Cybil moaned about her sex life to her friend Baranski finally cuts her off with the line (that was new to me even if y'all have heard it) "Waiter, I'd like another Scotch and could you bring my friend a clue?"

And then, as Baranski accepted her Emmy for her work on the show she thanked the writers on the show "without whom she'd just be a tall dumb (nice pun) actress."

It sounds like the show self imploded, sadly. I liked the show. I liked her book.... I even liked her singing on the Moonlighting soundtrack. You'd think I were getting paid....

Actually, she kinda owes me because I bought this book at full price but now has it posted for free on her personal site. I'm happy to have done it. I only mention it because I didn't want to sound like she had her mom write this.… (meer)

As celebrity autobios go, I think this one is pretty excellent. I didn't know much about Cybill Shepherd before reading it, but I liked the pun in the title. I'm now quite anxious to check out "Moonlighting," the TV show she did with an all-but-unheard-of Bruce Willis, and a few of her movies. The book itself was thoughtful and amusing, managing to drop plenty of names without seeming to do so gratuitously.

Also, I had no idea she was rather an outspoken feminist activist, and I found myself unexpectedly moved to admiration a few times by the choices she made (though other parts of the book, like her matter-of-fact promiscuity, were interesting without being at all appealing).… (meer)

I'm glad I didn't pay for this; the Kindle version was free.

This book is about two things, basically: one, how many men Cybill Shepherd has been with in her life (and she brings to mind a phrase I've heard my mother use about people like her: "She'd sleep with a snake if someone held its head still"), and two, how many people in Hollywood hate her without reason.

She is not particularly interesting, and neither is her story.

I give it two stars because I did manage to finish it, and a few parts were interesting. Overall, though - don't waste your time.… (meer)
